Painting the Essence of Vanilla Paradise

Nevis, a beautiful island in the Caribbean, is home to a vibrant community of artists, including Vaughn Anslyn. A native artist, Vaughn creates beautiful paintings and murals of the flora, fauna, and life on Nevis. One of his remarkable works is the painting of vanilla orchids on a large rock at the entrance of Vanilla Paradise Nevis, the first and only vanilla farm on the island. It’s the first thing you see when you come in, so let’s delve into the story behind this remarkable artwork.

Vaughn Anslyn - a true Nevisian

A Natural Talent

Vaughn, a true Nevisian, believes that art chose him. Despite having no formal training, he possesses a natural talent for bringing the world's beauty to life on canvas. His artwork for Vanilla Paradise Nevis captures the journey of a vanilla plant, from its delicate blossoms to its prized beans.

I’ve never been an artist: art chose me.

A Symbolic Representation

Vaughn had a challenge: the canvas is a rock, it isn't level and messes with your mind in the best possible way. As you move around, the painting morphs, revealing new angles and stories. Vaughn’s secret? He imagined how it would look from every viewpoint, ensuring it's a visual treat from any angle and a dynamic and almost 3-D experience for visitors.

Inspired by Nature

It all began with a casual chat between Vaughn and Gina Empson, Vanilla Paradise’s founder. Impressed by Vaughn’s art, Gina approached him with an idea—could he paint something extraordinary on the imposing rock at the farm's entrance? Intrigued by the prospect, Vaughn visited the farm and was blown away by its natural splendour and meticulous layout. It was like a miracle; he had never seen anything like it on Nevis or anywhere else in the Caribbean.  Of course, Vaughn accepted the challenge. The result? A masterpiece perfectly integrated into the farm's surroundings, beckoning visitors to immerse themselves in its beauty.
